Joondalup Health Campus
Joondalup Health Campus is set to double in size as part of a $229.8 million major expansion of public healthcare facilities at the site.
The redevelopment program will enable more people living in one of the fastest growing areas of Perth to receive the care they need closer to home.
The program is being funded by the WA State Government and is being undertaken in partnership with Ramsay Health Care, which operates Joondalup Health Campus under a long-standing and successful public-private partnership with the Department of Health.
Construction work is scheduled to start in 2009 and is expected to be completed in 2013. Construction will be phased to enable the existing hospital to continue to operate normally.
The expanded hospital will be twice the size of the existing facility. There will be a 61 per cent increase in bed numbers for public patients from 280 to 451 beds. There will be 11 new operating theatres, replacing the existing six.
A new Emergency Department will be two and a half times the size of the existing department which is the busiest ED in the State treating more than 63,000 patients per year. A 20-bed dialysis service will also be established in the vicinity.
Ramsay Health Care is also building a new private hospital on the site. The initial stage of this facility will have 85 beds and is set to open in 2012. The expanded Joondalup Health Campus will have a combined total of 536 beds making it the third largest hospital in Perth.
