Construction
Construction on the new Midland Health Campus will start in 2012 with the new hospital set to open in 2015.
The Midland Health Campus is being procured in partnership with the private sector who will be responsible for designing, building, and operating the hospital. The project is jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth Governments.
The State Government recently announced St John of God Health Care Inc as the preferred respondent to deliver the new Midland Health Campus. An evaluation process established St John of God Health Care Inc (SJGHC)is best able to meet the State’s requirements with a commitment to safety and quality in the delivery of care, the provision of a contemporary, patient-centred design solution for the new Midland Health Campus and long term efficiencies in the delivery of health care. The proposal highlighted St John of God Health Care Inc’s intent to work with the community in delivering integrated and innovative health care for the population in the north eastern corridor of Perth.
The State Government will now begin contract negotiations with St John of God Health Care Inc (SJGHC) with a view to finalising a range of contractual details as soon as possible, enabling construction to start during 2012.
WA Health has a long tradition of successfully working with the private sector to deliver public hospital services and infrastructure projects - private healthcare providers have delivered public hospital services at Joondalup and Peel Health Campuses for more than a decade.
Working with the private sector to build and operate a new general hospital in Midland will deliver value for money for taxpayers with quality healthcare services to be provided to the community. This partnership will also assist in the delivery of the project on budget and on time.
While the new hospital will be operated by a private provider, it will be funded by the State Government and will treat public patients.
