Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre
The Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre is set to be transformed into a world class and fully-integrated medical research centre with more than $1 billion being invested in new facilities.
The Medical Centre is already home to more than 35 health organisations including the Lion’s Eye Institute, the Oral Health Centre of WA, PathWest, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, the University of Western Australia’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research.
A new children’s hospital will be built at the Medical Centre. Once complete, work will begin on a new women’s hospital. Both hospitals are being built alongside Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The three hospitals will have a combined total of approximately 1,100 beds making it the largest healthcare facility in Western Australia.
A new research precinct is being constructed. The precinct will include new purpose-built facilities for the State laboratory testing service PathWest and the Western Australia Institute for Medical Research. There will be a new neurosciences research centre and new facilities for the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is being expanded as staff focus more on treating the State’s sickest patients. There will new mental health facilities and a major expansion of its Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
Car parking and public transport access will be improved. New multi-storey car parks will be built.
