Need clinical advice for COVID-19 positive patients within the NMHS catchment?

Please only contact Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) or Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) clinicians if your patient resides within the catchment.

The WA COVID Care at Home Service (external site) delivers home monitoring care for COVID-19 positive patients who have conditions that put them at greater risk of hospitalisation.

NMHS clinical advice on COVID-19 related health problems

  1. How do I access advice on the use of early therapeutics for my COVID-19 positive patient who does not need hospitalisation but is in a high-risk group?

    Please refer to HealthPathways: COVID-19 Assessment and Management (external site) for guidance information on each of the medications and instructions on how to access treatment for your patient. Note: Lagevrio® (molnupiravir) and Paxlovid® (nirmatrelvir and ritonavir) are available on PBS Streamlined Authority prescription.

  2. How do I seek urgent clinical advice on managing COVID-19 related health problems for my COVID-19 positive patient, including potential need for admission?

  3. How do I access specialist care for my patient experiencing suspected post-COVID syndrome?

    The Post-COVID Syndrome Clinic previously publicised at SCGOPHCG is pausing the acceptance of referrals while further work is undertaken to ensure consistency with state planning. Existing referrals to the service will be honoured and the service will recommence soon. In the interim, urgent referrals can be made to the speciality of the patient’s main complaint.

  1. How do I seek urgent clinical advice on non-COVID-19-related health problems for my COVID-19 positive patient?

    Please ring SCGH switchboard on (08) 6457 3333, identify yourself as a GP and ask for the relevant specialist team on call.

     

  2. How do I seek urgent clinical advice on geriatric-specific issues (eg: delirium, agitation) for my elderly COVID-19 positive patient?

    For patients living in a residential aged care facility, please ring the Residential Care Line on (08) 6457 3146 (8am to 6pm, 7 days a week).

  3. How do I seek clinical advice on end-of-life/symptom control for my COVID-19 positive patient?

    Please ring the state-wide Palliative Care Outreach Service on 1300 558 655 (24-hour advisory service for doctors and nurses). Enquiries will be taken by a palliative care consultant.
