Safety and Quality

Safety and Quality

Consumer Experience and Clinical Excellence provides direction and leadership at all North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) sites and services for the governance, co-ordination and evaluation of safety and quality initiatives.

Our goal is to provide our patients with the highest quality care and empower our staff to continually improve the safety and quality of care provided. This is achieved by promoting a culture of safety and continuous learning through:

  • Patient safety surveillance and clinical incident management
  • Measuring clinical performance and embedding quality improvement in care
  • Maintaining high healthcare standards
  • Engaging with consumers to review feedback and complaints.

NMHS safety and quality information is provided for:

  • Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Hospital Care Group
  • Women and Newborn Health Service (including King Edward Memorial Hospital)
  • Mental Health, Public Health, Dental Services (including Graylands Hospital)

For information on safety and quality performance for Joondalup Health Campus, please refer to Joondalup Health Campus – Clinical Quality & Safety (external site).

Our priorities

  • Patient safety Patient safety is at the forefront of everything we do. To help us provide the safest possible care, we look at incidents that occur to ensure we learn from them.
  • Quality of care We aim to continually and proactively improve the quality of care we provide our patients by measuring outcomes against patient safety targets and promoting a culture of quality improvement.
  • Maintaining high standards of healthcare Through audit and surveillance processes, we ensure all patients are protected from harm and receive a high level of care.
  • Engaging with our consumers Compassionate, person-centred care is an experience we want to provide all patients. To ensure we do this, we regularly collect, monitor and report on patient feedback and use this to improve our services.
