    Connecting Care for WA Country Health Service women 05 August 2025 An innovative WA Country Health Service (WACHS) project is aiming to improve access to timely, expert antenatal care for women with high-risk pregnancies in the Kimberley and Pilbara. The Connected Care: Advancing Maternal-Fetal Health with Telehealth Ultrasound Across Western Australia project will pilot a real time tele-ultrasound service linking clinics in the two regions with Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) subspecialists at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). Led by WACHS Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Associate Professor Jared Watts, the service will strengthen local clinical capacity and promote culturally safe care. With more than 6000 pregnancies annually in rural and remote WA, the project also aims to support early diagnosis and intervention and reduce travel burden. Assoc.     Neurokin supporting neurodiverse colleagues at NMHS 05 January 2024 A new staff-led initiative is supporting neurodiverse colleagues and educating others to understand the benefits and challenges of a neurodiverse workforce. Founded by Dr Sarah Bernard, a physician with autism and ADHD, Neurokin has grown thanks to the work of a committed neurodivergent leadership team, including nurse manager Kathryn Boon. The peer support group launched at North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) has now expanded to include nurses, doctors, project staff and admin/clerical staff at other health service providers. The group meets regularly and organises events to help support each other. It covers such topics as reasonable adjustments in the workplace and dealing with feelings of loneliness. She is invested in ensuring the integration and connection of each team member so everyone feels cared for professionally and personally.     Silent Disco a success at Graylands Hospital 29 November 2023 A new initiative involving silent disco technology is being used to help improve patient experience and engagement at Graylands Hospital. A three-month trial using silent disco headphones began in September and is proving to be successful as a therapeutic activity for inpatients. Occupational Therapy Manager Tamara Rouen said the technology can help promote wellbeing, reduce stress and aggression, enhance emotional expression and improve patient engagement. "It can also help with coping and self-regulation in what can be a noisy and chaotic ward environment at times," Tamara said. "Graylands Hospital is trialling this technology in a range of areas including mindfulness and meditation, physical exercise, self-esteem, stress management, education sessions and group therapy.     Congratulations WA Mental Health Award winner Dan Cazangiu 27 November 2023 Dan Cazangiu has been awarded the Lived Experience Impact and Inspiration Award at the annual WA Mental Health Awards held at the Hyatt on Thursday night 23 November. Dan works as a mentor and peer worker for the Start Court program. The North Metropolitan Health Service won two awards with King Edward Memorial Hospital Perinatal and Infant Mental Health program coordinator Leanda Verrier taking the Mental Health Employee or Volunteer Excellence Award. Hosted by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) the Awards recognise and reward the achievements of those who demonstrate excellence, innovation and initiative in supporting consumers of mental health services, their families and carers.
