With guidance of the team, Abbie was able to complete further training such as Hospital Advanced Life Support within her first year of her qualification, which allowed her to obtain crucial skills. "These opportunities have laid the foundation for my continued professional development and progression towards senior nursing roles within the ward," she said. New mobile van to screen for breast cancer in WA women 17 October 2024 A fifth mobile unit to screen for breast cancer in WA women is being added to the BreastScreen WA fleet to support more Western Australian women. With twelve fixed sites and four mobile units, the additional unit will enable 5,000 more screening mammograms to be undertaken in localities where demand is high. Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer for women, impacting 1 in 7 Australian women, and having a screening mammogram (breast x-ray) every two years significantly increases the chance of a woman surviving breast cancer and reduces the amount of treatment required. Women 40 years and over with no symptoms are eligible for a free screening mammogram with BreastscreenWA. With October being Australia’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have been holding a number of activities to remind people on the importance of screening. Read more here. Book your screen...

Early detection methods continue to increase outcomes and chances of survival. Take time in October to find out what you need to know about your breast health and share this important information with your family, friends and colleagues. If you would like to help us spread awareness for this important service, visit the BreastScreen WA website for resources and support (external site). Book your free screening this October.
