    Connecting Care for WA Country Health Service women 05 August 2025 An innovative WA Country Health Service (WACHS) project is aiming to improve access to timely, expert antenatal care for women with high-risk pregnancies in the Kimberley and Pilbara. The Connected Care: Advancing Maternal-Fetal Health with Telehealth Ultrasound Across Western Australia project will pilot a real time tele-ultrasound service linking clinics in the two regions with Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) subspecialists at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). Led by WACHS Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Associate Professor Jared Watts, the service will strengthen local clinical capacity and promote culturally safe care. With more than 6000 pregnancies annually in rural and remote WA, the project also aims to support early diagnosis and intervention and reduce travel burden. Assoc.     Mirrabooka One Voice Launches 17 December 2020 People from all cultures, faiths, ages, abilities and backgrounds have come together to form 'With One Voice Mirrabooka', which was officially launched in early December. The launch was attended by the Member for Mirrabooka, Janine Freeman MLA, MHPHDS Executive Director, Ros Elmes and other special guests who were treated to a performance by the choir. MHPHDS Health Promotion Coordinator Vilma Palacios said some studies had shown that singing in a choir positively impacted both psychological and physical health. "We know choirs bring people together, and with more than two in five people feeling socially isolated, this is very important," she said.     Australian Nurse Practitioner of the Year 2020 15 December 2020 Congratulations to our very own Carol Douglas, named the Australian Nurse Practitioner of the Year 2020. What an achievement for Carol in this the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. In accepting her award Carol said “I am proud to say that I have been a nurse for over 45 years and of that, a Nurse Practitioner for 9 years. It is safe to say I never expected to be receiving this award, and in the face of one of the most challenging years for nurses all around the world. I am humbled.” Carols’ role included the creation of the Nurse Practitioner led sustainable Residential Care Line (RCL) outreach service model, designed to prevent avoidable presentations to the Emergency Department. Carol is a true example of a dedicated and passionate nurse who works to deliver the best outcomes for her patients. Well done Carol we’re so very proud of you.

    OPH Speech pathologists collaborate with people with Parkinson’s to help students 05 December 2020 The Osborne Park Hospital Parkinson’s Clinic team thanked their clients who recently attended a week-long specialist clinic to help university students. Available to third and fourth year ECU speech pathology students, the clinic was developed to help students gain experience in the delivery of evidence-based communication and swallowing therapies to patients, both face-to-face and via telehealth. The clinic trialled a simultaneous treatment model with some clients present in the room and others at home and online for their communication program. Rachel Bridle, OPH Senior Speech Pathologist said the clinic was successful in achieving group interaction and peer support and the speech pathology team plans to continue offering group therapy in this way.
